Meridian works out what the sun, the moon and the dark will do at your spot, hour by hour and days ahead. Drag the wheel along the bottom of the screen and the whole app retunes to that moment.

Each one is a different way of asking whether it's worth going out, and each answers in the same currency: hours of light you can actually use. There's a fifth tab, Shoots, which is where a plan goes once you've made one.

The sun's and the moon's paths for the day, drawn around your pin. Scrub back through the afternoon and the sight lines swing round with you.
Get an answer, not a dashboard
One number: how much genuinely dark, moonless, cloud-free sky tonight gives you. The week beside it picks the best of the next five, so you aren't comparing dials by eye.
Hold it up to the sky
The paths land on whatever you're pointing at, for whatever time you've scrubbed to. Most useful in the afternoon, when you're choosing a composition and the stars are hours away.

Most planning apps hand you every number and leave the judgement to you. Meridian makes the judgement, then shows you exactly what it judged on.
The maths never leaves the phone
Where the sun and moon sit, and when twilight ends, is astronomy rather than a lookup — your phone does the arithmetic. No account, no Mirentha server, and we never learn where you're going.
One number, with its working attached
Usable clear dark is the time that is properly dark, moonless and forecast clear, all at once. The dial it comes from shows each of those as its own band, so you can see which one is costing you the night.
It will tell you not to bother
A flat "not tonight" is worth more than an optimistic maybe. When the moon is up until three and the cloud sits at sixty percent, the app says so rather than leaving you to work it out in a lay-by.
