What survives the import, and what doesn't.
Your cards come across intact. Anki's scheduling doesn't, and we would rather say so here than let you find out in exam week.
My imported cards are all "new"
They are, and that's expected. Anki schedules with SM-2, which tracks an ease factor and an interval; FSRS tracks stability and difficulty. There is no honest conversion between the two, so rather than invent one Cardetta starts imported cards fresh. Your cards, formatting and media all arrive; only the scheduling history is left behind. A deck exported from Cardetta and re-imported keeps everything, history included.
Some Anki template features look odd
Four of them, specifically. Text-to-speech fields are silent; a hint appears inline as “(hint: …)” rather than behind a tap; a type-in-the-answer field shows as a placeholder; and LaTeX or MathJax comes through as its source text rather than rendered. Nested cloze deletions are supported. Everything else — the text you wrote, images, audio — imports normally.
How do cloze cards work?
As in Anki, the cards made from one cloze text are a family. Edit the text on any of them and every card in the family changes; add a new number and a card is added, take one out and its card goes, and the editor tells you which before you save. Hold the cloze button to put a gap on the same card as an existing number. An Anki cloze note’s Back Extra comes across and shows under the answer.
An .apkg wouldn't import
Cardetta reads packages from every recent Anki version, including the compressed newer format. If one is refused, the app says why rather than failing silently. Very large packages — well over a gigabyte — are the least tested path. Send us the file, or its size and where it came from, and we'll look.
My export is bigger than Anki's
It is. Cardetta writes the older, widely-compatible package format and stores its contents uncompressed, which trades file size for the near-certainty that anything since Anki 2.1 will open it. On a very large deck, expect the export to take a moment and to use a fair amount of memory while it builds.
A .csv lost my formatting and images
A CSV is plain text and cannot carry either — it is there for spreadsheets. Use .apkg for anything you intend to bring back, which keeps formatting, media and, between Cardetta and itself, review history.

Why is this card in today's queue?
Ask the app. The ⓘ button during a review opens Why this card, today, which explains the decision in plain English and then shows the numbers behind it: stability, difficulty, the chance you still remember it, your last rating, the current interval, and how many times you've seen and forgotten it. No app should ask you to trust a queue it won't explain.
What does it cost?
Cardetta is free for one deck and fifty cards, with everything else the app does. Cardetta Unlimited removes both limits: £2.99 a month or £19.99 a year in the UK, and each plan starts with a free week for new subscribers. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you can do any time in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions; cancel at least a day before the period ends to avoid the next charge. If you stop, nothing is deleted or hidden, and you can keep studying every card. The subscription screen only appears when you go past the free limits, never during onboarding.
Do I have to pay again on a new iPhone?
No. A subscription belongs to your Apple Account rather than the phone, so it covers every iPhone signed in to that account, and Restore purchases in Settings brings it back if it does not show straight away. Your decks, though, are a separate matter — see the next answer. Apple takes the payment and handles refunds, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Do my decks sync between devices?
Yes, through your own iCloud. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both iPhones and your decks, cards, deck settings and review history follow you; Settings ▸ iCloud in the app tells you whether this copy is syncing. Two things to know: images and audio are files rather than records, so they stay on the iPhone that holds them, and the sync goes through your private iCloud database, which Apple holds and Mirentha cannot see. If you would rather not use iCloud, export the deck as .apkg and import it on the other device — between Cardetta and itself that round trip keeps every card's history and creates no duplicates.
I set an exam date and nothing changed
Then you're already on track, and the deck screen will say so. Exam mode can only bring work forward: it raises the daily new-card allowance so you meet every card before the date, and pulls back reviews FSRS had scheduled after it. If the deck already fits in the time you have, there is nothing to bring forward.
What is desired retention, and should I change it?
It's the chance FSRS aims for that you still remember a card when it comes up. Higher means more frequent reviews and more work per day; lower means fewer reviews and more forgetting. 90% is the usual balance and a good place to leave it unless you have a specific reason.
Does it learn my personal forgetting curve?
Not yet. Cardetta uses FSRS with its default parameters, which are drawn from a very large body of review data and are a sound starting point for anyone. Fitting parameters to one person needs a long review history to be better rather than just different, so per-user optimisation is deliberately out of this version.
Does anything I type get uploaded?
Nothing reaches Mirentha: there is no server of ours and no analytics. What you type is stored on your iPhone and, when you are signed in to iCloud, mirrored through your own private iCloud database so it can reach your other iPhone. Importing, studying, editing and exporting all work in aeroplane mode; sync simply catches up when a connection returns. Buying the app is handled by the App Store, outside Cardetta, and carries nothing about your decks. Full detail is on the privacy page.
The microphone won't record
Recording needs microphone permission — check Settings › Cardetta › Microphone. One thing to know: switching a card between Basic and Cloze while you are recording abandons the recording. Finish the take first.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Cardetta is iPhone-only and portrait-only; there is no iPad, Mac or Apple Watch version.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app, and everything Cardetta held on that iPhone goes with it: decks, cards, images, audio and review history. If iCloud sync was on, your decks, cards and review history are also in your own private iCloud; to remove those as well, delete Cardetta’s data from your iCloud storage (Settings › Apple Account › iCloud). Export anything you want to keep first. We hold nothing, so there is nothing to ask us for. Deleting the app does not cancel Cardetta Unlimited; do that in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.

Images and audio don't sync
Decks, cards and history follow you through iCloud; the media files stay on the iPhone that holds them. Export and import if you need the lot on another device.
Anki scheduling doesn't come across
Imported cards start as new. There is no honest mapping from SM-2 to FSRS, so we don't fake one.
Statistics stop at retention
One figure per deck, and the explanation sheet per card. There are no graphs, heat maps or streaks — on purpose.
