PackcastPacking lists for iPhone, by Mirentha

Packed for the weather at every stop.

Packcast builds your packing list from the weather at each stop of your trip, says why every weather item is there, and learns what you never use.

Free for one trip at a time. Packcast Plus, for several at once, is £1.49 a month or £9.99 a year.

How the list is made

01

Add the stops.

Up to five stops, each found by name with its own dates. Then say how you’re travelling and what you’ll be doing: the beach, a city, hiking, skiing, a formal do.

02

Each stop gets its weather.

The trip opens on its own travel poster: each stop’s name, its weather in one line, and what that weather put on the list. The list arrives at once, and the weather makes it better.

03

Every item says why.

“Rain likely in Porto.” “Warm in Lisbon.” Whatever the weather adds carries the stop and the reason under its name, so you can see why it’s coming.

New trip: Stop 1, Porto, 21 to 24 October; Stop 2, Lisbon, 24 to 28 October; and Add a stop. The Porto and Lisbon trip: a lemon travel poster with each stop’s weather, then the list, 12 of 52 packed. The list with a reason under each weather item: Shorts, warm in Lisbon; Rain jacket, new, rain likely in Porto.

Before you go

The forecast changes. So does the list.

In the ten days before you leave, Packcast checks the forecast again each day you open it. Whatever the new forecast adds is marked New; whatever it no longer needs says Maybe not needed now, and stays until you remove it.

Further ahead

Months away, it packs for the usual weather.

Past the ten-day forecast, Packcast uses what the same dates were like over the last three years. Chamonix in February: −7 to 11°C, snow likely 4 days, so the warm coat, hat and gloves are on the list today.

The Chamonix ski week, 112 days to go: minus 7 to 11 degrees, cold, snow likely 4 days, typical for these dates 2024 to 2026.

While you pack

01

Tick it off as you pack.

One tap per thing. Each kind of thing keeps its own count, and the count at the top says how much is still to go.

02

What to buy, and when to start.

Mark what you still need to buy and it waits under To buy. Two days before you leave, at 18:00, a reminder says it’s time to start packing.

The trip with 12 of 52 packed: Documents 2 of 5, with Passport or ID and Tickets ticked. Packing in dark mode, 18 of 52 packed: Toiletries 5 of 9, and Sun cream marked to buy, warm in Lisbon.

After the trip

01

What didn’t you use?

When a trip is over, Packcast asks. Tick what came home unworn or unopened, and say if you took too many of something.

02

Next time, it packs less.

Things you keep not using wait at the end of your next lists in Usually unused, so you can see what usually stays in the bag. Took seven T-shirts and wore five? Next time it packs one fewer.

What didn’t you use? after the Bath trip, with things to switch on under Documents, Money, Clothes and more. Usually unused at the end of the list: Travel pillow, not used on 2 of 3 trips; Guidebook, not used on 3 of 3 trips; Smart shoes, not used on 2 of 2 trips.

Questions

Before you pack.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s no account to make, and no ads or tracking. Your trips are kept on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud, where Mirentha can’t see them.

Where does the weather come from?

Apple Weather. For the next ten days Packcast uses the forecast at each stop; further ahead it uses what those dates were like over the last three years. To find places and fetch the weather, what you search for and each stop’s location and dates go to Apple.

Does it work for trips with several stops?

Yes, up to five stops, each with its own dates and its own weather. Things the stops share appear once, and every weather item says which stop needs it.

Will it change my list without asking?

It adds what a new forecast needs, marked New. Things the forecast no longer needs say “Maybe not needed now” and stay until you remove them.

What does Packcast Plus add?

Several trips at once, templates, starting from a template or a past trip, and Pack again. Plus is £1.49 a month or £9.99 a year, and new subscribers get 7 days free.

What does it need?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and a connection to fetch the weather and find places. The app is in English (UK).
