It helps to include your iPhone model, its iOS version (Settings › General › About) and the Stillpaw version, which is at the foot of Stillpaw's Settings. A description or a screenshot is usually enough. Please don't send your backup file: it holds your whole diary, and we never need it.
Stillpaw is a diary, not veterinary advice. It doesn't detect or monitor seizures. If you're worried about your pet, call your vet or an out-of-hours vet.
What you need
- An iPhone with iOS 26 or later.
- Stillpaw is in English, and it's for dogs and cats.
- There's no account to make and nothing to sign in to.
The seizure timer
What happens if the app closes or my iPhone restarts during a seizure?
The seizure is saved the moment you tap Seizure started, and the clock is worked out from that moment rather than counted while the app is open. If Stillpaw is closed or your iPhone restarts, the timer opens again with the right time when you next open the app.
If it has been running for more than 30 minutes when you come back to it, Stillpaw asks "Did you forget to stop the timer?", and you can answer It's still going or Set when it ended.
I started the timer by mistake.
If you tap Seizure ended within 3 seconds, the seizure is discarded and Today shows Timer discarded, with Undo for a few seconds. Later than that, Seizure details has Discard seizure at the bottom, and any seizure can be opened from History and deleted with Delete seizure.
I started or stopped the timer late.
Open the seizure and tap Change start or end. The length is worked out again from the times you set.
How do I set up my emergency plan and the Call button?
In Settings, tap your pet. Under Emergency plan, write the plan you agreed with your vet and set Show my plan after, from 1 to 30 minutes (5 unless you change it). Under Vet, add your vet's name and phone number; the timer shows a Call button once a number is saved.
While a seizure is timed, the plan sits under the clock. Once it passes your time, the clock gets smaller and the plan opens out under it, headed with the time you chose ("It's been 5 minutes"), and with the line "If you're worried, call your vet or an out-of-hours vet now."
Can I log a seizure I didn't time?
Yes. On Today, tap Add a past seizure, set when it started, and give its length as Estimated or Unknown.
Medicines and reminders
Can I count on the reminders?
Use them alongside your own routine. Reminders are iPhone notifications that Stillpaw sets up on your iPhone, and iOS delivers them, so they can be late, silent or not appear: when notifications are off or held for a Scheduled Summary, a Focus or Do Not Disturb is on, the iPhone is off or out of battery, the time zone changes, or Stillpaw hasn't been opened for a week. You stay responsible for giving your pet's medicines as your vet prescribed.
Stillpaw's Settings › Reminders says "On" when reminders are allowed, and "On, but they may not reach you:" when Stillpaw's own notification settings could hold them back (shown nowhere, not on the Lock Screen, held for a Scheduled Summary, or with sound off), with Open Settings to change them. It can't tell when a Focus is on or the battery is low.
Reminders don't arrive.
Stillpaw asks for permission to send notifications when you first save a daily medicine with reminders on. If you chose Don't Allow, turn notifications on in your iPhone's Settings › Notifications › Stillpaw, or tap Open Settings in Stillpaw's Settings › Reminders. Check too that the medicine's Remind me at these times is on, and look at what Settings › Reminders says under On.
Reminders are planned a week ahead each time you open Stillpaw, so open it at least once a week; on the last planned day it reminds you to. Apple allows an app up to 64 waiting notifications, so Stillpaw sets up to 60 reminders at a time as well as that reminder to open it, planning fewer days ahead when your pets' medicines have a lot of dose times.
What is the second reminder?
If a dose still isn't recorded as Given or Skipped, Stillpaw sets a second reminder for 30 minutes after its time, starting "Not recorded yet", with Given and Skipped on it too. Recording the dose, in the app or from either reminder, removes both. Second reminders are on unless you turn off Remind again if not recorded in Settings › Reminders.
They only use the room left under the 60: each dose's own reminder comes first, so with a lot of dose times some second reminders aren't set.
Can I answer a reminder without opening Stillpaw?
Yes. Touch and hold the reminder (or pull it down) and tap Given or Skipped. It's recorded straight away without opening the app, and a dose you record early won't be reminded again.
What does Not recorded mean?
A dose time that has passed without a Given or Skipped. Stillpaw never guesses. You can still record it: open the medicine and tap the dose under Last 14 days.
The vet changed a dose or the times.
Edit the medicine. Changes to the dose or times are recorded in the medicine's history, with the date. If a medicine is stopped, use Stop rather than deleting it: its doses and changes stay in the diary and the report, and a stop can be undone for 14 days.
What about rescue medicines?
In Medications, tap + and choose Add rescue medicine (on an empty list, tap Add rescue medicine). Rescue medicines have no times or reminders: log a dose when you give one, or choose it under Rescue medicine in a seizure's details.
Backups and a new iPhone
Where is my diary kept?
On your iPhone, and in your iPhone's own backups to iCloud or a computer if you make them. There's no Stillpaw account or server, and we never receive your diary, so we can't recover it for you. If the iPhone is lost or Stillpaw is deleted, the diary can go with it unless you've exported a backup file. The privacy policy has the detail.
Why does Today ask me to back up?
A backup file you've exported is what brings the diary back if the iPhone is lost. So Today shows Back up your diary a week after you add your first pet if you haven't made one, and again whenever the last one is 30 days old. Export backup makes the file; Not now asks again in two weeks.
Settings › Backup › Last backup shows when a backup file was last made. It's the date the file was made for sharing, so check it reached somewhere safe, such as Files or an email to yourself.
How do I move my diary to a new iPhone?
If you set up the new iPhone from a backup of the old one, your diary comes with it. Or, on the old iPhone, go to Settings › Backup › Export backup and save the file somewhere you can reach from the new one, such as Files or an email to yourself. Install Stillpaw on the new iPhone and choose Restore from a backup on the first screen, or Settings › Backup › Restore from file.
I restored the wrong backup.
Before a restore replaces anything, Stillpaw saves what was on the iPhone. Settings › Backup › Restore previous data lists up to three of these copies, newest first. A restore can't start while a seizure timer is running.
Can I get my records into a spreadsheet?
Yes. Settings › Backup › Export CSV makes two files, one of seizures and one of doses, covering all your pets and all dates. They open in any spreadsheet app. CSV export is on the free plan.
The vet report
How do I make the report for my vet?
In History, tap Vet report at the top right. Choose Since last vet visit (once you've logged a visit), Last 3 months, Last 12 months or Custom, up to 24 months at a time, check page 1 in the preview, and tap Share PDF to send it however you like. You can log vet visits on the same screen.
The report is made only from what you recorded. Every page says so: "Compiled from the owner's entries in Stillpaw. May be incomplete. Not a clinical record or a diagnosis."
The report is part of Stillpaw Plus. Without Plus you can still see the preview and export the CSV files.
Stillpaw Plus
What's free, and what does Plus add?
Free, with no time limit: one pet; every seizure, with the timer, your emergency plan and History; one daily medicine with reminders and the dose log; rescue medicines and extra doses; CSV export, backup and restore.
Stillpaw Plus is £2.49 a month or £17.99 a year (UK prices; they may differ in other countries), with no free trial. It adds more pets, more daily medicines, the vet report PDF, and medicine changes on the History chart.
How do I restore Plus on a new iPhone or after reinstalling?
Go to Settings › Stillpaw Plus › Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with. The Plus screen has a Restore button too.
How do I cancel?
In Stillpaw, Settings › Stillpaw Plus › Manage subscription, or in your iPhone's Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid being charged for the next one.
What happens if Plus ends?
Nothing you've recorded is deleted. Each pet keeps its first daily medicine with reminders and the dose log; any others stop reminding and their doses become read-only, and Stillpaw tells you which. Seizure logging, the timer, CSV export and backups keep working. Subscribing again brings the reminders back.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Before you start
What was the Before you start screen?
The screen after Welcome makes three points: Stillpaw is a diary, not your vet; reminders can be late or not arrive; your records live on this iPhone, so export a backup now and then. Tapping I understand saves the date and the version of the terms it stood for on your iPhone (and in its own backups); it's never sent anywhere. It shows again only if the terms change in a way every owner should see.
Settings › About › About Stillpaw's records has the full version, with the date you tapped I understand, and links the terms of use.
Deleting your data
- Delete a seizure from its details, or by swiping it in History.
- Delete a pet in Settings: tap the pet, then Delete followed by its name (Delete Bramble, for example). This removes its seizures, medicines, doses and vet visits from this iPhone and can't be undone, so you're offered Export backup first.
- Copies saved before a restore are in Settings › Backup › Restore previous data; swipe one to delete it. A copy saved before you deleted a pet still holds that pet, so delete it too if you want the pet gone completely.
- Deleting the Stillpaw app deletes everything it stored on the iPhone. Backup files you exported, and your iPhone's own backups, stay until you delete them.
Known limits
- The diary stays on one iPhone: there's no syncing between devices or sharing with another person.
- There's no iPad, Mac or Apple Watch app, no widgets and no Live Activity for the timer.
- Reminders follow your iPhone's time zone, so 07:00 stays 07:00 when you travel. If you record doses and then change time zone, some doses recorded before the trip can show as Not recorded in the lists and the report; the records themselves are kept.
- Stillpaw records and reminds. It never suggests or changes a dose, and it doesn't diagnose.
