Talespoke Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy is for

This policy covers the Talespoke iPhone app. Our website, including the form on this site that tells you when the app launches, is covered separately by the Mirentha privacy policy.

Talespoke is published by Mirentha Ltd (“Mirentha”, “we”, “us”), a company incorporated in England and Wales (company number 17207914), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. For anything in this policy, contact [email protected].

2. What Talespoke collects

Nothing. Talespoke does not ask you to create an account, does not ask for your name, email address or phone number, and contains no analytics, attribution, advertising or crash-reporting code of any kind. It contains no third-party code at all: everything it does, it does with Apple’s own frameworks. No data reaches us from the app, so we process no personal data in connection with your use of it, and the app does not track you.

Campaign notes can say a great deal: about your players, your friends and the stories you tell together. None of it is ours to look at, and the app is built so that it could not be.

3. What the app stores, and where

Everything is held in the app’s own private storage on your iPhone:

Campaigns. Each campaign’s name, the game system you typed or picked, and the names of the player characters, so the app never files a player as an NPC.

Notes. Every note exactly as you dictated or typed it, whether it is prep or a recap, its date, and the one-line summary written for the timeline.

NPCs, threads and places. Their names, what your notes said about them, which notes mention them, whether a thread is resolved, and anything you added or changed by hand.

Two small settings. Whether you have seen the welcome screen, and whether Talespoke Plus was active the last time the app checked, so the app opens in the right state before the App Store answers.

Exports. When you export a campaign, the Markdown file is written to a temporary folder so the share sheet can hand it on. That folder is emptied every time the app launches.

Nothing is synced. Talespoke does not use iCloud sync, CloudKit or any server of ours or anyone else’s, so your notes stay on the iPhone you wrote them on. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, the app’s data is included in that backup like any other app’s, under your own Apple Account or on your own computer; we cannot see it there either. Deleting the app removes everything it stored from that iPhone.

4. Dictation

When you tap the microphone, Talespoke transcribes what you say on your iPhone, using Apple’s Speech framework. The audio is used only to produce the text you see, as you speak. No recording is kept, and no audio or transcript is sent to us.

The first time you dictate in a language, iOS may download Apple’s speech model for that language. That download is between your iPhone and Apple, carries none of your notes, and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

If you use the microphone key on the iOS keyboard instead, that is Apple’s own keyboard dictation, not the app’s, and it follows your iPhone’s dictation settings and Apple’s privacy policy.

5. On-device AI

Talespoke reads each note with Apple’s Foundation Models framework, the on-device model behind Apple Intelligence, to pick out the NPCs, plot threads and places you mentioned and to write the note’s one-line summary. When you tap Answer from these notes in Search, the same model writes the answer from the notes the search found. All of this runs on your iPhone. The app does not send your notes to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute or to any other server, and nothing the model reads or writes is used to train anything.

Automatic filing needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on. Apple Intelligence itself is Apple’s feature and is governed by Apple’s terms and Apple’s privacy policy. Without it, Talespoke works as a notebook you file by hand, and nothing about your privacy changes.

Nothing the model finds is saved until you have checked it on the Check what was found screen, and your own words are always kept exactly as you said them.

6. Exporting, and the share sheet

Export writes a whole campaign as a Markdown file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Nothing is sent until you choose a destination, and where it goes from there is governed by whichever app or service you pick, under that party’s own privacy policy. An export contains every note and everything filed from them, so treat the file as you would the notes themselves.

7. Permissions the app asks for

Microphone. Asked for the first time you tap the microphone on a new note, and used only to dictate that note. You can decline and type instead, and change your mind in Settings › Talespoke.

Speech Recognition. Asked for alongside the microphone, because iOS asks apps that turn speech into text to say so. Transcription runs on your iPhone, as section 4 describes.

Talespoke asks for nothing else. It does not request your camera, photos, location, contacts, calendars, health data or notifications, and it shows no tracking prompt because it does not track.

8. Subscribing

Talespoke is free to download, and one campaign is free for as long as you run it. If you subscribe to Talespoke Plus, Apple sells the subscription, takes the payment for it and for each renewal, and records it against your Apple Account. The app learns from Apple, on your iPhone, only whether a subscription is active. We never see your payment details, your billing address or your Apple Account.

Apple also processes your download as the operator of the App Store and, if you have chosen to share analytics with developers, may give us anonymised, aggregated statistics such as crash counts and device types. That data comes from Apple, cannot identify you, and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

9. Children

Talespoke is made for Game Masters, of any age, running their own games. It collects no data from anyone, children included: there is no account, nothing reaches us, and there is no messaging, no social feature, no content from other people and no advertising anywhere in it.

10. Your rights

UK GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data held about you. Because Talespoke sends us no personal data, we hold none in connection with the app, and there is nothing for you to access or erase with us. Portability is served by the app itself: export any campaign as Markdown, free, at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it held on that iPhone.

If you email us about Talespoke, we hold your message and address in order to reply, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering support enquiries; that is covered by the Mirentha privacy policy. You can ask us to delete the correspondence at any time at [email protected], and you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

11. Changes to this policy

If a future version of Talespoke ever collects anything, syncs anything, or sends anything off your iPhone, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here in plain words. The date at the top always reflects the current text.
