FairsiesSplit the bill from the receipt

How Fairsies compares

Fairsies is an iPhone app for splitting one restaurant bill from its receipt. Apple Intelligence reads the photo on Apple's Private Cloud Compute (Apple says it keeps nothing once it has answered), you tap who had what, and each person's share, with its part of the service, tax and any discount, comes out to the penny, checked against the printed total. There is no account, the bill isn't kept once you close the app, and its App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected. Splitwise, tricount and Splid keep running balances across a trip or a household; Splitwise reads receipts with Pro, and Tab reads them free.

Who it suits

Fairsies is a good fit if

  • you want to split one restaurant bill at the table, item by item, from the receipt;
  • you'd rather nobody else had to sign up or install anything;
  • you want service, tax and discounts shared fairly, and a split that adds up to the printed total;
  • you'd rather nothing about the bill was kept.

Another app may suit you better if

  • you're keeping track of shared costs over a trip or a household: Splitwise, tricount and Splid keep running balances for the whole group;
  • your group uses Android: Splitwise and tricount have Android apps, and Splitwise also runs on the web; Fairsies is iPhone only;
  • you want everyone to claim their own dishes on their own phone: Tab lets people with the app join the bill;
  • your iPhone doesn't support Apple Intelligence: Fairsies reads receipts only with it, so you'd type the total, and any lines you want split item by item, yourself.

What people ask for, and what Fairsies does

Knowing what's free and what isn't

Several bill-splitting apps limit what you can add for free. In Fairsies, typing a total and splitting it is always free; scanning is five bills free, then a subscription with no charge per scan.

Not making everyone sign up

Only the person holding the receipt needs Fairsies; the rest get one line in the group chat, or a slip each.

Scans that misread a line

Fairsies shows every line to check, a press fixes a price or a name, and it says so when the lines don't add up to the printed total.

Service and tax shared fairly

Service and tax go per head or by what each person ate, VAT already in the prices shows as included, and a discount comes off what each person had.

Questions

How much does Fairsies cost?

Five scans are free. After that, scanning is £1.99 a month or £14.99 a year, renewing until you cancel. Typing in a total and splitting it is free, always.

Does Fairsies need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, and nobody else at the table needs the app.

Does Fairsies keep track of who owes what over a trip?

No. It splits one bill at a time and keeps no record of the bill once you close it. For running balances over a trip or a household, Splitwise, tricount or Splid suit better.

Is Fairsies on Android?

No. It is for iPhone only, and scanning needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence. Splitwise and tricount have Android apps, and Splitwise also runs on the web.

Where does the receipt photo go?

To Apple's Private Cloud Compute, where Apple Intelligence reads it; Apple states that it keeps nothing once it has answered. Nothing about the bill reaches Mirentha. The privacy policy has the detail.
