HivedayHive inspection log for iPhone

How Hiveday compares

What sets it apartYour inspections and the five-year medicines record sync through your own iCloud: no account to make, and none of it reaches Mirentha, the company that makes Hiveday.

Hiveday is a hive inspection log for hobby beekeepers, filled in at the hive on buttons made for a gloved thumb, in as many apiaries as you keep. It works out varroa rates and keeps the five-year medicines record. It’s coming soon to the App Store.

Why choose Hiveday

  • Made for gloves. An inspection on one screen of big buttons made for a gloved thumb; save, and Hiveday sets the next visit.
  • The medicines record UK and EU rules ask for, as a PDF laid out like the National Bee Unit’s Fact Sheet 28, free.
  • Two hives free, in any number of apiaries. Plus adds more hives, photos and the varroa and brood charts.
  • Varroa counts worked out per 100 bees or per day, and charted with Plus.

What you pay. Hiveday Plus is £12.99 a year, for more than two hives, photos and charts. HiveBloom lists £59.99 a year, and a £17.49 yearly plan it doesn’t describe; HiveTracks lists up to £69.99 a year, and Bees Knees is free.

Another app may suit you better if

  • you want everything free, for any number of hives: Bees Knees has no in-app purchases.
  • you want the weather in your plans: Bees Knees says when it’s good to inspect, and HiveTracks has a bee weather forecast.
  • you also keep records on an iPad, a computer or Android: HiveBloom runs on Android and the web, and Bees Knees on the web.

What people ask for, and what Hiveday does

Records that don’t depend on one company

Keepers want records that don’t depend on one company’s account or server. Hiveday has no account, and keeps safety copies of your records on your iPhone.

Controls you can use in gloves

Keepers ask for controls they can use with gloves on. Hiveday’s inspection is one screen of 52-point buttons, and notes are optional.

Questions

Is there a beekeeping app with no account?

Hiveday has none to make. Your inspections and the five-year medicines record sync through your own iCloud, and Mirentha, which makes Hiveday, collects none of it.

Does Hiveday keep the bee medicines record?

Yes, free on every plan: each medicine bought, given and disposed of, exported as a PDF or CSV. Hiveday is not affiliated with the National Bee Unit or APHA. Bees Knees prints one too, free.

How much is Hiveday?

The free plan covers two active hives, in any number of apiaries, with unlimited inspections and varroa counts; archived hives don’t count. You need Plus (£1.99 a month or £12.99 a year) to add a third, and for photos and charts. The medicines record stays free, even if Plus ends.

Can I export my hive records?

Yes, on every plan: the medicines record as a PDF or CSV, your inspections as a CSV, and all your records as a backup file. Photos stay in the app and your iCloud.

Does Hiveday tell me when to treat for varroa?

No. It works out each count per 100 bees or per day, and never says when to treat.
